Pellet Stoves, and Inserts

Pellet appliances are a fantastic alternative to gas, without having to chop, store, and haul wood. They are simple to operate and, with regular cleaning, can last for many years.

What you need to know about pellet appliances:

- Pellet appliances need electricity in order to operate, they can be hooked up to a generator if this is a concern.
- Pellet appliances require regular cleanings every few days or they will not work properly, or sometimes not at all. Pellets are made from small wood particles held together with adhesives and these make their way into every nook and cranny, eventually clogging up moving parts. It is recommended to also get a yearly (or twice yearly) cleaning by a professional.
- There are multi-fuel stoves available as well that can burn almost anything as fuel, i.e. distillers grain pellets, corn, wheat, rye, or cherry pits. The type of fuel you are burning directly correlates to the efficiency of your stove or insert, as well as how often it needs to be cleaned.
